Porto’s Bakery, a famous and very popular Cuban bakery that once started in Glendale. I had visited their Glendale and Burbank stores many times while I was living in Gardena. I love their cafe and bakery items so much. I cannot tell you how busy they always are. There is always a line for the cafe and bakery good, as well as for picking up special order cakes whenever I at their Glendale store.
Since I moved to Irvine, I haven’t been to Porto’s. Then last Saturday, I’ve decided to visit their store at Downey, which was kind of on our way to visit my mother-in-law in Gardena. It wasn’t too difficult to find and wasn’t that far from the 605 freeway on Firestone Blvd.
It amazed me the moment I stepped inside this bakery. It is much larger than their other locations. There are outdoor and indoor seating, and plenty of them. I remember it was very difficult to get a table when we were at their Glendale store.
Once you enter the bakery, to your left is the cafe, sandwiches/salad and drink. And to your right is the bakery section, cakes and pastries.

I had to wait about 10 minutes in line to place our order. I couldn’t decide what to order so I ordered a lot of items including salad, sandwiches and danishes. We waited another 10 minutes to pick up our food.

I only get to take picture of the two items above before we digged in. We, especially my son, were too hungry. We had our order to-go, but if you order for eat-in, your sandwiches will come with some plantain chips and jalapeno.
Other items which we ordered were pastrami sandwich ($5.98), large pina colada smoothie ($3.98), 3 potato balls ($0.98), 2 ham croquette ($0.86), meat pie ($0.89), almond danish ($1.35), guava strudel ($0.80) and coconut strudel ($0.98).
It was almost 2pm when we left the Bakery and yet, people were still coming in. I will definitely return again to this place since now that I found it is not too much of a detour when we go to Gardena.
